Thank you for helping this family make the transition to having a Jewish daughter. I recently started my conversion to Judaism after marrying into the faith. My family has not exactly been running up to congratulate me on my choice. They've been largely non-religious, but they celebrate Christmas like every other American family. I was surprised to see that my mother decked out the whole house for a hanukkah celebration, because I didn't know they would be going all out for me. It was very gratifying that though they couldn't say that they supported my choice, they were showing support anyway. My wife gave me the third degree about sending her flowers "just because." Being a woman, she immediately suspected that I was having an affair. When I asked her why she would possibly suspect that, she answered that those flowers were 100 times nicer than anything else I've ever given her. So what's up with that, people? I was in the USA recently, and I discovered the tradition of Thanksgiving. It's such a wonderful time to take the summer and autumn harvest and put it to good use for family that visits. I was interested to see how my American friends celebrated, and from what I understand, there is a turkey and potatoes and that's about what the similarities are between families. I like the idea of having a major holiday before Christmas that kind of celebrates autumn and all its colors. I was also impressed with the flowers. I understand that not everyone includes flowers as part of the holiday, but if my friends are any indication, everyone should have flowers. I would like to start a Thanksgiving celebration in my country, and I can start with turkey, potatoes, and autumn flowers.(Irina K., Tallinn )
