For some reason, the wire services were down -- or so I was told by two other flower delivery companies. I don’t know how you were able to get my order there in time, but you did. Though I am far away from my friends, it's nice to know that I can let them know I am thinking about them in a time of sadness and loss. Flowers are so much more tactile and have more substance than cards or electronic messages, like they are stand-ins for you. It's something they can move around and focus on in order to get the kind of feeling that I hope I would provide were I there. I'm glad that you can help me express my sympathy for the family in this way and that I can do it much more easily than if I were to go there myself. The old codger will never admit it, but he appreciates the way they brighten up his dark, dank three-room cabin in the mountains. My cousin told me that some flowers went to the house, and some went to the funeral home, and one went to the hospital, even after my uncle had died.
